LED Follow Spot Lights
Follow spots are the lighting devices that can make or break a show. A poor followspot operator can cut off a performer’s head or leave them out of the beam completely. The Stage Manager calls the cues, but it’s up to the operator to execute them.
This LED followspot features a tight, focused beam with an iris and chopper that are manually controllable. It also offers fast electronic strobe and silent operation with smooth LED dimming.

Cree
Follow spot lights are manually operated moving light used to highlight a single actor in theatre shows or other presentational productions. They can be controlled by a dedicated follow spot operator, or by the lighting designer / team during technical rehearsals. The operator controls the size of the beam (iris), color (through use of drop in gels) and pan and tilt of the lantern. They also have control of a chopper, which closes a gate of opposite shutters on the top and bottom of the lantern to shut off all or part of the light.
To take advantage of the bulb’s smart features, you’ll need to pair it with a hub that can translate its Zigbee signal into Wi-Fi. At launch, it was somewhat married to the Wink Hub, but since then we’ve seen official support roll out for options like SmartThings, Staples Connect, and even the Philips Hue Bridge. In our testing, the bulb paired and performed well on every platform we tried it with.
One thing to keep in mind is that bulbs like the Cree LED won’t play nicely with dimmer switches. Trying to dim it using a dimmer switch will cause the two mechanisms to clash, resulting in moderate to severe buzz and flicker. However, for the cost of the bulb, it’s a minor complaint.
