LED Follow Spot Lights
Follow spot lights are powerful spotlights that can add depth and dimension to a stage performance. They can also be a challenge to operate.
Typically, the lighting designer / lighting team creates specific follow spot plot sheets that are called during technical rehearsals. The SM calls the cue, such as “Spot 1 on Hilda SR”. The operator then follows the performer with the light.
Power
Followspot lights are a powerful stage lighting instrument that projects a bright beam of light to track performers as they move around a performance space. They are commonly used in concerts, musicals and other large-scale presentations where the ability to highlight a specific mobile individual is critical. Spotlight operators use a follow spot to illuminate and emphasize actors’ movements to keep the audience engaged with what’s happening on stage. The operator can control the followspot’s iris, color (through the use of drop-in gels), and pan and tilt. Some larger modern followspots also have an automated system that removes the operator from the equation, enabling them to be located at ground level backstage and operated remotely.
The first step in becoming a follow spot operator is developing a strong understanding of the basics of lighting and stage illumination, which can be obtained through training courses and workshops. In addition, practical experience can be gained through internships or part-time work in theaters and other venues.
LED Follow spot lights are far smaller, lighter and cooler than traditional incandescent theatre followspots. They are also more versatile and come with a variety of options that can be controlled from the lighting board. For example, the Chauvet LED Followspot 75ST uses a bright 120 W LED to create a tight, hard-edged beam that can be focused using its mechanical iris. Its DMX connectivity allows for remote control, while the built-in CTO filter lowers the color temperature to match tungsten bulbs.
Dimming
Our LED Follow spot lights have a wide range of dimming capabilities. Led Follow spot lights This allows you to create a smooth and professional fade when the light is turned down. This will make your shows more visually appealing and engaging for your audience. Our lights can be controlled either through on-board manual controls or a DMX control system.
The ADJ FS600LED is a modern 60W LED Follow Spot that features 8 colors, variable strobe speed and dimming capabilities. It also offers an adjustable Iris and shutters for manual framing. This fixture can be used both in master/slave mode and dmx controlled according to 3-pin and 5-pin DMX protocols. The FS600LED can be controlled using different dmx curves including linear, halo, quadratic and gamma 2.6.
In addition, this light is more compact and lighter than traditional incandescent follow spots, which means you can transport it easily and store it easily. This makes it perfect for use in a variety of venues, from night clubs to theaters.
While you can use a follow spot light with just the dimmer, it’s not always the best choice. For instance, if you dim your spot too quickly, it can cause it to burn out. However, if you want to use a dimmer, it’s important to know how to operate one correctly. You need to use a slow, precise technique to avoid burning out your bulb.
Color Temperature
DLW 1400 Follow spot lights can change the color temperature of their beam, making it possible to use this fixture in more environments. This is especially useful when lighting scenery and costumes, because it allows you to show the colors exactly as they are supposed to be. This makes it easier to work with and improves the overall look of your production.
This is a traditional follow spot that uses a 150W white LED light source and comes with five built-in white color temp selectors: 7000k, 6500k, 5400k, 4500k, & 2800k. It has a Led Driving Light Bar fixed 10o beam angle and can be controlled via the included stand or with any DMX controller.
The LED Follow Spot is a portable and powerful lighting instrument that emits a tight beam to highlight actors at far distances. Its LED light source produces a crisp white light, and its built-in CTO filter lowers its color temperature to match tungsten lamps. This unit can be operated manually or remotely, and it offers a variety of faders for controlling iris, focus, and color.
The DLW 1600 LED Follow spot is a high-powered light that can be used on many different kinds of stages. Its dimmer and color control functions allow for easy operation, while its high power and brightness make it ideal for professional performances.
Gobo
A Followspot is designed to follow a performer. Its tight beam, powered by a bright 120 W LED, highlights actors at far distances. Its built-in CTO filter reduces the color temperature to match tungsten lamps and gives you the versatility you need in your stage lighting. With DMX integration you can control the color, intensity and onboard strobe effect from your central DMX controller. This allows you to let your spotlight operators focus exclusively on tracking the performer and lets you make quick lighting changes without any delays.
Some fixtures include a single gobo slot and a mechanical iris to adjust the diameter of the beam. Using this feature, you can project your favorite monogram or a gobo design directly onto the surface you want to spot light.
The gobos are not projected from the lens (like in ellipsoidal spot lights). Instead, a piece of plexiglass is placed behind the iris and focuses the light to project the gobo. There are some fixtures that do not use an ellipsoidal reflector that still allow for gobo projection, but these units require more light to hit the gobos to be useful.
The Chauvet DJ LED Followspot 75ST is an affordable option for adding full-sized followspot performance to your lighting setup. It features a 75-watt white LED for a hardedged, focused beam and includes a tripod for easy setup.
